All three tools are a variation of the same theme – i.e. full featured operating system running on embedded devices. The core of the tools is a minimalist deployment of the NetBSD operating system on flash memory such as USB thumbdrive. The goal is to produce a small core as possible in order to minimize memory footprint and hardware resource requirements. That is essentially what polyBSD stands for. The other two tools use polyBSD as a basis and provide software for Storage Area Network (SAN) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) respectively. Using any of the above tools, a user can turn any physical system into a full featured SAN or VPN solution without the need for any installation of operating system or third-party packages.
